The Most Dangerous Game Essay The Most Dangerous Game Essay Have you ever had feelings about something that later changed? General Zaroff let Rainsford in and treated him to good food and plenty of rest. Zaroff was talking to Rainsford about hunting, and then Zaroff explained his passion, he hunted humans because animals were no challenge. Rainsford did not like this and tried to avoid Zaroff. Soon after this, Zaroff gave Rainsford a choice, it was either Zaroff would hunt Rainsford for three days or Rainsford will get whipped in the dungeon of Zaroffs home until he agrees to be hunted. Unwillingly, Rainsford picks to go hunting and hopes to survive the three days. If he did live, he would be set free with money and new clothing, so Zaroff says On the hunting trip, Rainsford successfully avoids Zaroff for three days by hiding and setting up traps, then he pretends to go to sea by freeing the boats. Finally, he sneaks into Zaroffs room and hides there until Zaroff arrives. Eventually, he confronts Zaroff and fights him to his death. After that, Rainsford gets the best night sleep he has ever had. I feel that Richard Conel tried to express a feeling of change within the characters mind. Before Rainsford was ever hunted, he was cruel to animals. He would hunt them just for the fun of killing them. Rainsford had no sympathy for animals before he encountered Zaroff. During the middle of the story, Rainsford becomes the next prey of General Zaroff. Due to the stress and the feelings of fear, I think Rainsford might have changed his mind about animals and how they feel. After this event, I know that Rainsford has now become sorry for his ideas about animals and how they should be treated. I know that Rainsford is a dynamic character because of his ability to positively change his feelings. I think you sometimes need a tragic event to finally change a stubborn persons mind. In conclusion, I feel that the author, Richard Conel, tried to show how people could change by experiencing different situations. Rainsford, after becoming the hunted prey himself, corrected his faults and formed new opinions about hunting and standing up for the rights of animals. Rainsford is an excellent role model for positive change! English . Category: English . the most dangerous game Essay Example For Students the most dangerous game Essay Richard Connells the most dangerous game Essay is a very exciting story of a manhunt. This story made me think about the morality of hunting: Humans are the cleverest creatures on earth, but does it give them a license to kill the other animals and even human beings weaker than themselves? I give below a short summary of the story to set the scene and then I will explore the ethics involved in hunting as a sport. The Most Dangerous Game presents the story of a hunter, General Zaroff, who finds hunting human beings as the most dangerous and fascinating sport. He likes hunting humans because human beings, unlike the other animals, can reason better and so provide a richer thrill for the hunter. He does not think hunting human beings is an immoral act because he believes in the theory of might is right and that the strong have the right to kill the weak. We will write a custom essay on the most dangerous game specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now However in the story General Zaroff fails to hunt down Rainsford, who had the ill fortune to accidentally slip overboard a yacht and swim to the shore, seek shelter in the Generals chateau in the midst of a jungle, and become General Zaroffs quarry for three days. Nevertheless, Rainsford, who believes it is immoral to hunt human beings, was clever and desperatehe gave General Zaroff the slip in the manhunt and killed the General. So The hunter who craved to pit his wits against the victims wits for the Sake of excitement met his end. In my opinion Rainsford, who was also a great hunter, learnt the valuable lesson that it is cruel and immoral to hunt innocent animals for the sake of mere excitement and that hunting is not the best, as he formerly believed, but the worst sport in the world. He knew full well what it meant to feel the fear of pain and the fear of death. General Zaroff believed in the law of the jungle, that is, Might is right. So he felt there was nothing wrong in killing animals and even low-bred or weak human beings for excitement. According to him, the earth belonged to the strong and only they are fit to survive. To be weak is to forfeit the right to exist. However, this theory can be challenged in several ways. First And foremost, what is strength? It does not necessarily mean physical strength. A strong creature like the elephant is tamed and domesticated by a human who is relatively a weaker creature. If to be strong is to be clever, then a fox may be stronger than a lion. If strength lies in wisdom, an ant probably is no less wise than even a human being. So it is very difficult to say who are the fit and who have the right to survive. Furthermore, there is no reason whatsoever to claim the right of the strong to kill the weak. The weak have the right to live and many weak creatures thrive splendidly. Darwins theory of evolution teaches us that in the struggle For existence only the fit survive. But it does not tell us that the Weak are unfit. As a matter of fact, many strong creatures like mammoths and dinosaurs failed in the struggle for existence and became extinct, while puny and weak creatures like the cockroach or the common fly are living and flourishing. This proves that it is not physical strength that guarantees fitness and the license to live. Survival is a more complicated affair than mere strength. If we look at the history of evolution we see that human Beings have been very successful in the struggle for existence. One of the reasons for this may be that man does not live by bread alone and that the human society has developed a set of civilizing virtues like charity, kindness, and morality. .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 , .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .postImageUrl , .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 , .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1:hover , .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1:visited , .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1:active { border:0!important; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1:active , .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1 .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uce024e63782fb080e5ace2be4e72f1a1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Leadership: The King's Speech Essay We have been taught that it is immoral to destroy life. We have no right to destroy what we cannot create, and other animals are our fellow creatures. Our knowledge of ecology also teaches us that by killing animals we may be tampering with the delicate ecosystem and inviting our own destruction. Human beings are probably the most intelligent creatures on earth. That is why they have a great responsibility of keeping intact the life of the earth. The Most Dangerous Game Essay Example For Students The Most Dangerous Game Essay In the story, The Most Dangerous Game Essay by Richard Connell, Rainsford divides men into two classes of people, the hunters and the huntees. The explanation of this statement is that in life, everyone is either a victim of society or are out to get what they want. Rainsford says this becuase he hunted animals and never expected to be hunted himself. He considers himself a hunter because he traveled all around the world and wrote books on hunting. This changes when Zaroff was hunting Rainsford and chasing him which made Rainsford feel scared and nervous. Zaroff thinks it is too easy to hunt animals so he thought it would be more of a challenge to hunt humans. Zaroff and Rainsford travel and are experienced hunters, but Zaroff likes to hunt humans and he stops hunting animals because hes bored. They used to think hunting was just hunting, but they never felt what the animals felt when they were hunted. We will write a custom essay on The Most Dangerous Game specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now This statement can apply to society. The hunter is like the boss, he has power and the huntee is weaker and lower. This can apply to a lot of situations including a teacher and student, a parent and child, or a policeman and a criminal. Children have to listen to their parents and do what they say. If they dont, they will getin trouble or get yelled at. I consider myself a huntee because I have to obey my parents and ask their permission before I do something. If I do go out without my parents permission, I can get in trouble. This will change a lot when I am older and live on my own. If I work and have a boss, I would have to ask him before I do something. If I am the boss, employees will have to listen to me. This is why I consider myself a huntee. . The most dangerous game Essay Example For Students The most dangerous game Essay The short story The most dangerous game Essay by Richard Connell is about the hunter and the hunted but later in the story it becomes ironic because it turns into a game were the hunter becomes the hunted. It turns into a chase of competition and of survival. Two sailors Rainsford and his partner Whitney sailed in to the darkness of the of sea. Their purpose was to hunt, they called it the greatest sport. They were hunters and headed to the Amazon to hunt vicious animals such as Jaguars, and tigers. They sailed to an island called Ship-Trap Island. Sailors feared this island and had curious dread of such a scarry place. The sky was filled with darkness when suddently he heard Three gun shots that were fired, and heard them again and again. Then he heard a scream while smoking a pipe when suddently the pipe fell and as he tried to reach for it he whent down into the sea were the waves swallowed his screams. Nobody could have heard him as the ocean swallowed his screams and the only chance of survival was to swim. Rainsford swam towards the screams and ended up in the Island. We will write a custom essay on The most dangerous game specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now He walked on the shoreline and later found a place that looked like a mansion. There he met General Zaroff who bought the island to hunt. He was indeed a sporstman who invented a new sensation of the hunting game. His game was to train those men whos ships were wrecked and ended up in that island, and then provide them with food and a knife for three days. Once they were trained they were led out into the island as a head start while Zaroff chase after them and tried to hunt them down. If They survived during those three days they had won the game and they were let free but in the other case if they were found they were killed. Zaroff never lost the game so if one of the men being hunted was about to survive he would release the hounds to chased after them. Rainsford rested and the next morning had a dispute with Zaroff and told him that this hunting style was to brutal. In this argument Zaroff got mad and at this point in the story Raisford became the hunted. He was let loose into the island were he was to prepare himself for the most dangerous game of his life, the survival of the fittest. The first night was panicking and worried Rainsford as he hidded on top of a tree. The next day he set up a trap but Zaroff didnt fall for it and he almost got caught when Zaroff was right next to the bushes were Rainsford was hiding. the last day he set up a pitfall and while Zarroff and his servant were serching, his servant unfortunately fell into the pit. Rainsford got out of the Island trying to escape by swimming out into the ocean and swam back to the mansion and when Zaroff returned Rainsford switched the game around and proposed him to become the hunted. I like this short story because Rainsford was wise in making traps wich allowed Zaroff to take more time trying to find him and did them successfully wich helped him survive those three days. I also liked how the story ended it was kind of ironic the way Rainsfored changed the game around and became the hunter and Zaroff became the hunted. I thought it was a good idea because this way Zaroff would realise that his game of hunting people was wrong and this would teach him a lesson. .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a , .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .postImageUrl , .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a , .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a:hover , .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a:visited , .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a:active { border:0!important; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a:active , .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u96f38e1ac2cbde2f80ad30e25136737a:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Critical accounting theory EssayBibliography: . In The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Conel, I will show how one character changes his opinion about something after he has experienced it himself. Almost all of us have said Oh thats easy; or ;I could do that any day!; and then find out that the task is harder then it looked. In a summary, ;The Most Dangerous Game; is a story about a man named Rainsford whom gets stranded on an island with a crazed general. This general is named General Zaroff. Rainsford was an excellent hunter who wrote many books about hunting. Rainsford is an excellent role model for positive change! . The Most Dangerous Game Essay Example For Students The Most Dangerous Game Essay The Most Dangerous Game Essay, by Richard Cornell was a story which Mr.Cornell used 8 aspects of fiction to show his point of view that one who has intellect can overcome one who has intelligence or instinct. The characters used in the story gave the author a way to make his point of view come clear to his audience. The story uses sequence of events. The plot is how the story goes about. The setting is the surroundings of the story, or where it takes place. The suspense is the temporary holding of the information to keep the reading interested, and to keep the reader guessing and wanting to know what will happen so they will continue reading your story. Foreshadowing is the readers way of telling the future, in other words the writer is giving clues out to the reader so that the reader can produce a hypothesis of what will happen, usually the reader is right, its like suspense, when the reader wants to find out if he is right or wrong, it keeps the reader interested. Fantasy is when the reader suspends his disbelief in the story in order to enjoy the work of fiction, in other words the reader just stops disbelieving that some of the things in the story are impossible, and cannot happen. Images are symbols used by the author to reflect the point of view. These 8 aspects of fiction were used by Richard Cornell, in the, Most Dangerous Game, to reveal his point of view that one who has intellect can overcome one who has intelligence or instinct. We will write a custom essay on The Most Dangerous Game specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The characters in the story were Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. Now in the story Sanger Rainsford is the victim, and General Zaroff is the predator. Now Sanger Rainsford was a hunter, he was fearless, brave, strong, and smart. He claims that he is superior to the animals that he kills. But when he is being hunted himself, his point of view changes. General Zaroff is a hunter, now he hunts animals for sport. So he goes on a deserted island and hunts animals. A while has passed and it looks like all the animals on the island have been hunted and killed. General Zaroff then finds Sanger Rainsford washed up onto the island and he thinks, why dont I hunt him, so thats what he does. So General Zaroff becomes a people hunter, and Sanger Rainsford becomes his victim. Now the story as I have said before gave the author a way to express his moral or lesson. So he puts Sanger Rainsford on a ship, which sinks at sea, and washes him up on an island where a man named General Zaroff hunts for a living. He buts General Zaroff to hunt him, to show his point. But since Sanger Rainsford has intellect, he can survive, unlike the animals who have intelligence and instinct. At the end of the hunted, Sanger Rainsford makes it out alive using his knowledge and reason. The plot is the sequence of events, and they go like this: 1.Rainsford hunts animals, 2.He goes out to sea, 3. Gets washed up on an island, 4.Gets hunted by Zaroff, 5.Tries to leave, 6.Cant escape, 7.He has to use reason to beat his opponent and win the fight of life or death, 8.Rainsford wins the game, 9. He leaves. As you can see, the author uses the plot to make sure the story makes sense and goes in order. The setting is very important in a story. The reader needs to know where the characters are. So he/she can get a picture in their head of the scene. Well this story like I have mentioned a few times, takes place on a deserted island, in the middle of nowhere, and Rainsford is in the jungle being hunted. .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab , .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .postImageUrl , .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab , .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab:hover , .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab:visited , .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab:active { border:0!important; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab:active , .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u372a025ce42850f984c7e75b00eaa5ab:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Who Is The Inspector In An Inspector Calls Essay The scene is very important in making the story viewable in the mind of the reader. The most dangerous game Essay Example For Students The most dangerous game Essay Richard Connells ;The most dangerous game Essay; is a very exciting story of a manhunt. This story made me think about the morality of hunting: Humans are the cleverest creatures on earth, but does it give them a license to kill the other animals and even human beings weaker than themselves? I give below a short summary of the story to set the scene and then I will explore the ethics involved in hunting as a sport. ;The Most Dangerous Game; presents the story of a hunter, General Zaroff, who finds hunting human beings as the most dangerous and fascinating sport. One of the reasons for this may be that man does not live by bread alone and that the human society has developed a set of civilizing virtues like charity, kindness, and morality. .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 , .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .postImageUrl , .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 , .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377:hover , .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377:visited , .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377:active { border:0!important; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377:active , .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377 .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u548b24f03c200a7f00b26c696a4f1377:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: From Dirt to Duchess Essay We have been taught that it is immoral to destroy life. THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME Essay Example For Students THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME Essay There is something about hunting that General Zaroff did not liked any more. This thing that he disliked was that it was not a challenge for him to kill his quarry. He had been a hunter for such a long time that he was an expert. Rainsford was also a great hunter, he was on a boat when he heard some gun shoots, he went to check out were the shoots came from all of the suden he lost balance and he fell over the board. It was a dark night in the caribean waters. He swam behid the boat yelling to the his friends, but they didnt listened. Rainsford decided to survive, so he swam looking for the island they were sailing next to. Rainsford finaly reached the island. It was a big place with many trees and palms, almost like a jungle. Rainsford appeared from behind a courtain an killed the General. Now Rainsford realized that the hunter had become the huntee. . The most dangerous game Essay Example For Students The most dangerous game Essay I think The most dangerous game Essay is an escape book whose principal emphasis is on plot. The story is about a hunter who after a series of unlucky events finds himself in an island with a man who hunts people for sports. The two main characters represent two opposite sides. Rainsford is a good person who respects humans life while General Zaroff is a kind of bad guy who has no value for human life. Suspense is the main element to make the story attractive. There is a mystery coming from the very beginning when Rainsford first hears about the Ship Trap Island. Then the second mystery is introduced when Zaroff tells Rainsford what the most dangerous game in the world is. The story comes to its climax when Rainsford is forced to join Zaroffs hunting game. The celebrated hunter now becomes the quarry. Readers curiosity, which combined with anxiety, has been greatly aroused at this moment. The question Who is going to win the game keeps them reading. We will write a custom essay on The most dangerous game specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now No one knows what will exactly happen until the answer comes out at last. The whole book is full of actions and conflicts. Rainsford conflicts with himself, with nature, with society and with Zaroff. There is no dull moment in the story. Something exciting is always happening. With the development of the plot, readers are left anxious to find out how Rainsford manages to escape from being caught. The ending of the story is a typical ending for the escape book. Rainsford finally kills Zaroff. The hunter and the hunted change their positions. The good defeats the evil. The happy ending gives every reader a kind of relief. The Most Dangerous Game is a good adventure book for people of all ages to enjoy. Thats why I think its an escape book rather than an interpretive book. Bibliography: .

The design after this is the same on every page. The text or information is on the left and the links are on the right of the page. The links are organized in a block navigation bar. The categories are titled in white with a blue background. The individual links are in black with a yellow background. The navigation box is very user friendly and they work. All of the other information on the page is links also. They are linked in blue hypertext. All information on the home page is linked to articles with more information once selected. Along the left side is the current news. All of the links that are attached to the homepage are design with the same plain white background and have the logo across the top of the page. The links are placed in the same spot. The link turns red when you are actively on that page. And all have the navigation bar at the bottom of the page. The linked pages are mostly text. There only two other pages with graphic these are the linked pages call organizational chart and the Tour of the departments. Content The content of the page is mostly geared toward giving people general information about the office of the Rhode Island Attorney general. The sites content is broken-down into three parts. First the Department, this links pages about Sheldon Whitehouse, the mission, past history, a tour of the department, and an organizational chart. The next part is Divisions; this has links to the four divisions of the office of the Attorney General. These divisions are the Executive, Adminstrative, Criminal, and Civil Divisions. Also has a link to their Policy and Prevention. The last grouping is the Public Information section. The section has links to the Public Information office, Press Releases, and Access to public records. The links also include the Open Meeting Act and Advisory opinions. These links can be accessed from any page on the website. Other links include the Bureau of Criminal investigation, Consumer Information, Domestic Violence, Senior protection, Victim/Witness Assistance, Law enforcement and Judicial links. The Content also includes Press releases of current news and complaints. Ergonomics This site has above average ergonomics, especial for a fairly new site. The site is easily navigated through. Each Link is clearly stated what you are accessing when you click on each individual link. When one clicks a link the page is brought up promptly. The user is given the option to navigate to any page when one selects a page. The home link is always at the top of the page. The user will have an easy time moving through the site quick and smoothly. Interactivity The site does not have much interactivity. The only interactivity the site suggests is a contact link that contacts the user directly to the site's e-mail address. The email address to the site [emailprotected] I did contact the host. An

Operational Management in Health & Social Care Essay

Operational Management in Health & Social Care - Essay Example As the report declares TPS way of thinking is largely influenced by the thinking of Edwards Deming, the quality guru who taught, among other thoughts, that managers should stop their reliance on mass inspection as a way of achieving quality and instead embed quality in the production process and the product in the first instance. Essentially, â€Å"lean† means doing more with less by eliminating or at least limiting the waste of time and resources. Lean thinking is a management strategy that applies to all organizations, including health care organizations, because the concept has to do with the improvement of processes. Every organization has in place a series of processes intended to create value for its customers. The central idea in lean thinking is to scrutinize an organization’s processes with the aim of discerning between the processes that add value to the customer and those that do not and are, therefore, wasteful.  This paper stresses that lean thinking is o ften associated with manufacturing business organizations, not health care where the wastage of time, supplies and money are rampant. However, the principles of lean thinking can work in health care just as they do in manufacturing; this paper demonstrates how by analysing two healthcare organizations that successfully applied lean management to reduce cost and wastage and improve service delivery. The analysis is preceded by an overview of the key concepts of lean management.

Civil War between 1848 to 1861 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Civil War between 1848 to 1861 - Essay Example The American civil war erupted in 1861, following the election of Abraham Lincoln; a republican who opposed slavery. There are major events, which took place between 1848 and 1861 leading to the war. One of the major events is the end of the Mexican war in 1848, which meant that America was to surrender the western territories. As a result, new territories became states and the congress passed the â€Å"Compromise of 1850† that made California free to decide whether it would allow slavery or not (Boritt, 1996 p9) Another factor that triggered the civil war was the passing of the fugitive slave act in 1850 to strengthen the compromises act. Under this act, a federal official who failed to arresta runaway slave was liable to fine. Many abolitionists criticized this act and they increased their efforts to fight against slavery.A book entitled Uncle Tom’s cabin, authored by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852 is triggered the civil war. The book portrayed the evils of slavery and it changed the perception of northerners on the issue of slavery(McPherson, 1988 p11). The Kansas-Nebraska Act passed in 1854 was one of the issues that led to the civil war. This act gave Kansas and Nebraska the mandate to decide to continue with slavery or end it. As a result, there was violence in Kansas as the people who were opposed to slavery and the ones supporting it fought to control the state. This violence influenced the civil war to come. The Lecompton Constitution created in 1857 also caused the civil war. The constitution allowed Kansas to be free from slavery as most of the voters from the stated rejected it(Ray, 1990 p7). John Brown, an abolitionist together with seventeen others who included five black Americans, raided the Harper Ferry on October 1859. Their plan was to seize weapons and start an uprising against slavery. Unfortunately, they were

Memo of Advice to Mr. US on Taxation System Case Study

Memo of Advice to Mr. US on Taxation System - Case Study Example The tax rates are applied to taxable income which is arrived after deducting all expenditure incurred by the individual as specified in IRS. Every US citizen (Mr.US) working and residing abroad is bound to report income from sources outside the United States under Form 1099 from foreign payer (Publication 525, 2010). According to Arnold and McIntyre (3) individuals confront serious risks of having to pay excessive levels of tax as Mr. US being citizen of US and resident of UK may have to deal with tax laws of both countries. However dual residence problems are generally resolved through the tie breaker in tax treaties between the two countries i.e. US and UK. Mr.US can be benefited from the double taxation treaty which follows the OECD Model Tax Convention. Mr. US shall file a report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR) as his account is maintained by foreign organization in Mauritius, a labor agency which contracts the services of Mr. US to Newco in London for the period of five years. Tax Exchange Information Agreements between US and UK are incorporated in Double Taxation Treaty and Mr. US will have to comply with the double taxation treaty of filing the FBAR reports and paying income tax for his income earned for his services. Similarly, Labor Agency in Mauritius will pay taxes for its income from UK in Mauritius as well as United Kingdom as per the double taxation treaty existing between these two countries. As evident from the case study, Mr. US could face dual source issues arising through varying definitions in tax jurisdictions i.e. in US and UK. Mr. US may seek tax exemption within double taxation treaty between United States and United Kingdom. Mr. US may claim tax deduction in double taxation through exemption, credit or tax deduction through structured finance and possible exemptions in form of dividends and capital gains (Arnold and McIntyre,Ch. 15). It is informed that many tax jurisdictions do not grant deductions for future risk loss o r contingency provisions while some countries permit deduction for pension provisions. Mr. US shall get tax exemption from pension provision granted by Mauritius broker firm. The Mauritius broker company intends to open a discretionary trust in favor of Mr. US family owned by Mauritius firm. It is mentioned that shareholders dividends do not in any legally relevant sense arise in the taxing state which means the taxation belongs to the country to which the corporation belongs, i.e. Mauritius where the firm will be established (Arnold and McIntyre,Ch.3 53). The discretionary trust, where the remaining $225k have been diverted will be paid by the trust wholly under double taxation treat between two countries; United States and Mauritius, as the residence of trustees is in US while the trust is incorporated in Mauritius (Arnold and McIntyre,Ch.1, 21). Technology Disaster Recovery Plan

Technology Disaster Recovery Plan   Jacob Malone Disaster Recovery-As-A-Service Companies are starting to rely more on technology for their critical operations, data protection, and the availability of their systems. As a result companies or providers are offering new solutions and services in order to make IT disaster recovery cheaper and stress-free. With so many options available for Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service it can be difficult to determine what your business actually needs. The main purpose of a disaster recovery plan is to have the ability to recover any of your hardware, software, and apps after disaster strikes. According to Dustin Bolander, CIO at Technology Pointe, With so many businesses being IT driven, often times business continuity cannot happen without IT having a solid DR plan. The biggest gap we run across is getting the business workforce access again. Many IT departments are prepared to recover servers and networks, but have not considered how to communicate and re-enable the staff to resume work (2017). DRaaS was developed due to the increased demand in technology and instability of disaster recovery. According to Doug Hazelman, Without a robust DR infrastructure, a fire, a flood, an earthquake or even a really bad storm could not only take a business offline, it could take it out completely (2017). When executed correctly, DRaaS is more than a safety net for your information and technology because your users never experience the disaster to begin with. DRaaS is the replication and hosting of physical and virtual servers to a second location, either to a second appliance or the cloud, which is usually located in a distant second site. In the event of a man-made or natural catastrophe, those replicated systems and data can be booted and accessed. According to Rohde and Haskett (1990), disaster recovery encompasses four distint phases: prevention, prerecovery, immediate recovery, and return to normal operations (p. 652). At some point servers, operating systems, and networks will fail and that is when DRaaS will be vital in continuing business operations. When it comes to Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service there are three types to choose from: Self Service DRaaS, Assisted DRaaS, and Managed DRaaS. The Self Service DRaaS model gives you the tools to establish a disaster recovery plan yourself. This means you are solely responsible for monitoring the recovery environments as well as deciding how often to test to ensure the solutions are working appropriately. For example, when a disaster happens your IT team is exclusively responsible for the recovery. This model comes with the lowest investment option, but comes with the tradeoff of time and resources to manage them. In addition, this model is best suited for a business that has internal disaster recovery expertise and enough bandwidth to manage the recovery environment. A second option to the Self Service DRaaS is the Assisted DRaaS. In this model a provider will advise you as you implement, test and manage your solutions. You are still responsible for your disaster recovery plan like in the Self Service model, but a DRaaS provider is standing by if their assistance is needed. Although you are still responsible for your disaster recovery plan a DRaaS provider may step in if IT team members are unavailable to help with failover in case of an emergency or disaster. This option is more expensive than the Self Service model, but it is still cheaper than the Managed model. This model is best for organizations that have IT assets, but are looking for addition help to provide direction and support with a DRaaS solution. Lastly, few providers offer this solution and will not offer a recovery SLA, meaning you are ultimately responsible for the recovery during an emergency or disaster. The third and final DRaaS solution is a Managed model. In this model the vendor or provider is responsible for the development, testing, and management of your disaster recovery plan. They will manage nearly every aspect of your recovery plan in order for the team to focus on the companies priorities. When disaster strikes the Managed DRaaS provider provides and supports the recovery process. This model provides a larger investment than a Self Service or Assisted model, but it provides the highest level of support and surety that the disaster recovery plan will meet the companies needs. Organizations with high demand for IT teams involved in the tactical operations of their business should use this model. Furthermore, this model will come with a SLA from the provider to ensure they will be responsible for the recovery in case of an event or disaster. In order to best understand the replication and backups of DRaaS it is best to picture it on a hot to cold map. This meaning that the hotter the solution the faster the recovery will have. For example, it a solution is hot then the system could be restored in a matter of minutes versus days on the other end of the spectrum. Another thing to consider when looking at a hot solution is the investment. The hotter the solution typically equates to a larger investment. When choosing a solution it is best to find one that balances the needs of your applications to the cost and timeliness of your recovery. The cheapest recovery option on the scale would be backups. According to Wu and Li (2014), it is a process that copies all or part of data from one hard disk to another storage medium (p. 1207). They are often disconnected from running technology and can be retrieved in order to restore system applications. Since these data backups are housed in a physical form like a tape or disk, there will be a large increase in downtime to identify and restore the system. This system typically does not offer the most up to date recovery solution, but they do offer a great long term solution for data preservation for a low cost. If a companies needing a faster recovery timeline then replication would be the best solution. While backups store information for long periods of time, replication will duplicate data as changes in the environment occur. According to Margaret Rouse, The result is a distributed database in which users can access data relevant to their tasks without interfering with the work of others. The implementation of database replication for the purpose of eliminating data ambiguity or inconsistency among users is known as normalization (2012). This option will allow you to quickly access recent changes to your data during a disaster, but it is not meant for long term retention. Real-Time Replication vs. Backup-Based Replication Provides recovery in seconds or minutes Records full environment Tracks Changes as they occur in the environment Reports changes on regular basis (typically once a day) Enables failback to earlier version if needed Table 1 You should not have to scramble in the event that disaster strikes. For every minute your business is down it is losing revenue and reputation. That is why it is best to approach disaster recovery from the viewpoint of disaster avoidance. With this in mind the term IT Availability has emerged. IT Availability differs in several ways from Disaster Recovery. IT Availability recognizes how IT and businesses depend on each other whereas Disaster Recovery views technology in a boxed perspective. Disaster Recovery Focus vs. IT Availability Focus Invest in an insurance policy Invest in ability to serve clients React to downtime and events Be proactive to minimize risk Rely on backups to store data Failover and failback to ensure service Recover anywhere from hours-days Recover in minutes to hours Emphasis on technical infrastructure Emphasis on serving end users Develop minimal process and reporting Process-driven and documented Emphasis on avoiding catastrophes Emphasis on continuous improvement Table 2 With the increased need of Disaster Recovery and the customer demand for uptime, many companies struggle implementing an effective solution before a disaster impacts them directly. According to 2016 Cost of Data Center Outage: Ponemon Institute, it is indicated that just one minute of downtime could cost a company nearly $8,000, but with a proactive approach to disaster recovery could equate to a substantial cost savings. DRaaS can be an effective solution to combat downtime and achieve IT availability. If approached in the right way, it can provide comprehensive proof of recovery to stakeholders and most importantly, increase your availability during an event. Quite simply, the success of your business depends heavily on both DR and BC plans working in conjunction. Most of todays network outages dont occur because of weather-related incidents, but because of human error. Its crucial that companies plan for the full gamut of events that could likely, and unlikely, impact their operations. In conclusion, DRaaS can increase you uptime and cost savings when disaster unexpectedly strikes. It is essentially insurance for your business. References Bolander, D. (2017). Business Communication at Sainsburys and Cadburys Essay -- Business M

Business Communication at Sainsbury's and Cadburys Communication There are several different types of communication in a business such as Sainsbury's and Cadburys. INTERNAL Telephone ? When the business is a big building or is a group of small way which are close or far away when telling another group of colleges something important e.g. Telling them that their supplies have arrived. It is the main way of communicating around the business. Telephones are appropriate when you need to talk to someone when it is quicker to ring them rather than going all the way over to the person. Face to face communication ? This is when two of more colleges talk to each other face to face. This could be general slacking or telling them useful information. It is the quickest way of communicating. But if the receiver doesn?t write the message down they will forget the message and it may be important to the functioning of the business. Face to face is appropriate when you need to tell someone a message quickly and they are next to you or if they are in the same area as them. Meetings ? Sometimes it is important that everyone meets face to face to discuss business issues. Usually, an assistant writes down what was discussed and agreed. These are called the minutes and everyone gets a copy. One problem of a meeting is that they take time and have to be planned in advance to make sure that everyone can be there. Hidden Dangers of ADHD Medication Essay

Medication for ADHD can cause a great deal of overdose for children that have ADHD. Their bodies will get addicted to the medication when they cannot do without them. If a patient stop taking it, their bodies will shut –down and start reacting in a strange way. These hidden symptoms can cause behavioral analysis that can evaluate the effect in medication that has form in the children body. It all starts from genetics, which cause ADHD, so it can be diagnose from the medication that can help the situation. This could be a good thing or a bad situation. The real risk factor of taking medication could start at birth or afterbirth. As an infant, toddler, teenager, even an adult they can be affected. As a parents, and when they are told ,what the diagnose of their infant is, it could be hard to except, at firsthand the parents are in sock and cannot believe this is happen in their family, and most of all to their baby boy or girl. All this happen as the year goes by, down through t he years medication could cause many behaviors, and disorder within the child’s body. As a parent, one should watch all symptoms a to make sure it will not occur during the time the medication is given. Just to see, if there is any hidden dangers pertaining to the medication (APA.org). As a toddler the parent should be seeing the effect of the medication. However, if the child is, acting out, eating, sleeping, and also feeling differently (CDC, 2014). This could be a problem. Then we have the teenager, the parents should be able to observe some major behavior with attitude, which will cause hidden dangers to the brain, by the way the teenager is doing in school, different activity at home or not at home. He or she can be in trouble and the parents will not know. By now the children should be our main interests, which are under the umbrella of ADHD or ADD. Their personality can change at the ages of 6-13. At this time, there could be many transactions of behavior disorder with attitude that can occur. This can be from the medication side-effect or how it react in the child body(CDC.gov).These behavior could cause confusion, like of  understanding, and not knowing who they are. The situation can get of hand, if the parents let it go too far without checking it out. The problem needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. Especially, if there is an attitude changes that can be caused from the medication (CDC.gov). ADHD or ADD is fou nd in the family genetics, also. Which plays, an important factor, and cause the medication to react in brain injury, premature infant delivery and with birth weight, after the hidden danger of ADHD medication. These factors, can give the general public a reason not to use these medication that is effecting all ages of children that are related to ADHD or ADD and from the medication that is given to the children for ADHD or ADD (APA.org). The cause of ADHD or ADD is a risk factor, in an effect to find better ways to relate and reduce the medication that is taken so that it will give the children a chance to correct the disorder from the medication. As a parent, one should not add any problem. When they know, what the problem is, and know that it is related to genetics and from the medication. But, genetics does play an important role. What the parents does not k, now, there are hidden side effect and dangers in the medication. Such as, too much sugar, environment exposure (lead) and etc. There are many things, which are in the medication that does not agree with everyone’s body (CDC.gov). Therefore it was, said, earlier about sleeping, as adult should get enough sleep to function, a check-up regularly, an infant should get the amount of sleep that he or she needs to function, also. As, well, as an infant to an adult, see a health care provider for any health concern or problem. For an adult, he or she should ge t 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily in order to function. But, as as a adult we do not get enough rest. Lack of rest or sleep can be a risk factor for many chronic diseases condition, such as, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression. Can you believe it, that all of these diseases are cause by not getting enough sleep. We, also have eating disorder, which is serious also, and could cause problem later on during the person life time. It is common in females than males. It also starts during adolescence or early adulthood or during a childhood stage. All of these can come from ADHD or ADD(CDC.gov). Here is another way that hidden dangers of ADHD or ADA medication can do harm to a child and that is medication during pregnancy. It can do a lot of harm to the the baby before it is born. This will be prescription and over-the-counter medication, and  dietary or herbal products. Talk to your ( a) doctor before all medication is taken. Just by doing that, the mother can do no harm to the baby. So say, 10% of medication approved by U.S. Foods, and Drugs Adminustration(FDA) since 1980 have enough information to stop or for the reason of rick for birth defects. Make sure, if the mother was taking any medication before she find out she is pregnant. She should not stop, keep taking them. Because, if she has high blood pressure, depression she might need to continue to stay health while or during pregnancy. There can be many hidden dangers of ADHD while taken medication during anytime of the life as an infant, child, toddle, teenagers, adult, and as a elder, there should be control while taking medication at all time. buy custom Aristotle essay

buy custom Aristotle essay Aristotle asserts that the main objective of any person living is that they attain happiness at the end of it all. In order to achieve such happiness, all their actions ought to be done in a manner that is aimed at good. This fact stresses that the achievement should be virtuous. People are incapable of doing things that they consider bad for them. The actions that are undertaken by human beings are not the main goals. Rather, they only act as a means to a higher purpose. Human beings aim at the attainment of happiness for its own sake. It is not because it accomplishes any other thing. Due to this, happiness is the ultimate mission in the life of an individual and, therefore, should take a virtuous path. Since virtue is something that makes people capable of performing their functions well and in a succinct manner, it is, therefore, the virtue of any person that enables human beings attain the habits that reflect their goodness. Deriving from ethical virtues concern with feelings and actions, a person should always maintain the appropriate feelings during the appropriate times and for the correct purpose (Irwin). It is because a person is capable of making an error simply due to their movement towards the incorrect feeling, timing or reasons in a way that makes them either excess or deficient. There are two types of virtues, intellectual and ethical. Intellectual virtue originates and grows from education as it needs knowledge and time. Moral virtue originates from habit. Moral virtues can, therefore, be said to arise in people by nature. Everything that comes to people through nature has to be learned primarily and later exhibited in a particular activity. Virtues are achieved by implementing them in life since the things people learn before doing them have to be learnt by doing them. It is how a good virtue is produed and damaged. Through committing the acts that people do in their transactions with others, they become just or unjust. Also, by performing the acts that they do in the presence of danger, and being adapted to feel fear or confidence, they become brave or faint-hearted. This notion also applies to appetites and feeling of rage, some individuals become calm and good-tempered, others become self-indulgent and irritable by conducting themselves in one way or an other in the suitable situations. Therefore, conditions of character originate from similar activities. This is the reason the activities people show have to be of a certain kind. It happens because the condition of a character corresponds to the differences between them (Irwin). The things found in the soul are of three types, passions, faculties, and conditions of character. Passions mean the feelings that are generally accompanied by pleasure or pain. Faculties mean the things in virtues that have the potential of feeling angry, pity, and happy among others. The condition of character implies the things in virtue that people well or badly relate to passion. For example, in relation to anger, people feel it violently or too weakly, and well if they feel it moderately. People do not receive praises or blames for their passions for a person cannot be accused for feeling angry but may be blamed for feeling it in a certain way. However, for virtues and vices, people may be blamed or praised. Also, people experience annoyance or fear without choosing. The virtues, however, involve making choices. The virtue of a person is the condition of character which makes results in their being good individuals and which lets them do their own work properly. The excellence of a horse makes a horse both good in itself and good at running and at carrying its rider and awaiting the attack of the enemy (Irwin). From the teachings of Aristotle concerning the relationship between feelings and virtue, however, there is nothing stated by him regarding what makes feelings either voluntary or involuntary. Rather, he places virtually all the focus on the issue of actions. He simply considers that the voluntary ones that are praised and blamed (Irwin). Actions and feelings may be voluntary and may be considered as being worthy of the blame or praise that they receive. To Aristotle, there is no particular contribution from the agent or the person that is affected. This fact demonstrates an effect of involuntariness in that a person simply acts in the light of external influence (Irwin). Furthermore, having the consideration that the aspects of ethical virtue are subjected to their determination by a prudent person, Aristotle leaves human beings in a state that is not settled. It lacks the finality that would qualify it as being a reasonable representation and explanation of the actions and feelings of human beings. It is because there is often a certain inconsistency between the various reasoning of different persons. Due to this fact, some of the actions or feelings that are committed or felt by human beings are considered as simply bad or good. For instance, the actions and feelings that have been declared as bad in every aspect include murder, malice, envy, and theft. The assertion by Aristotle is that the ultimate goal of every human being is the achievement of happiness. As a result, people ought to construe the world and implement their actions in a way that promotes virtue. It is only in doing this that the individual can attain the happiness that they desire in their lives. Feelings and actions are intertwined in a manner that a person is incapable of executing actions that are right or virtuous if they harbor inappropriate or bad feelings. Buy custom Aristotle essay

Business communication Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 2

Business communication - Essay Example Joe recently asked me if he could take his annual two-week vacation in the very near future. I have tried to get Joe to reconsider and possibly postpone this vacation because I know that our department will be extremely busy over the next few weeks. To this, Joe politely turned me down. However, it gets worse. What he then said to me was that he would not be returning after he has taken his annual leave. This is potentially a small problem for our department because it would take us at least two to three weeks to recruit and hire a qualified replacement.
